Description
TextCraft is an AI-powered app designed to enhance your reading and writing efficiency. It quickly summarizes and rewrites texts and articles, helping you understand and refine content with ease. Ideal for students, professionals, and researchers, TextCraft simplifies complex information and improves writing clarity. Additional features include different Summary and Rewrite options, , and a user-friendly interface, making it a comprehensive tool for anyone looking to boost their productivity in handling digital content.
Client's Brief
The client has specified that despite the app's advanced AI capabilities, the design should convey a natural and humble aesthetic. This means prioritizing a user-friendly interface that feels approachable and straightforward, avoiding overly technical or complex visuals. The goal is to make users feel at ease, fostering an environment that is welcoming and simple to navigate, which will enhance their overall experience without overwhelming them with the high-tech nature of the application.
Beta Testing
Over 150 members participated in beta testing TextCraft, guided by the client who undertook detailed user research to pinpoint their requirements. The client collected insights on desired app functionalities and how it should function, covering the entire feature set. Following this comprehensive analysis of user needs, the client provided me with a brief to proceed with the design work.

High-Fidelity Prototype
According to the user research conducted by the client, users indicated a preference for specific functionalities for text summarization and rewriting. For the 'Summarize' feature, the options desired are 'Explain', 'Explain Like I'm 5', and 'Summarize in Points', highlighted in green. For the 'Rewrite' feature, the requested options include 'Expand', 'Make it Shorter', 'Casual Tone', 'Professional Tone', and 'Fix Grammar', showcased in yellow. These choices are designed to cater directly to the user's needs for versatility and precision in text manipulation.

UX Design for the on-boarding session
In order to keep the app free for everyone, instead of using a subscription model, users can enter their own API Key from OpenAI's website. The onboarding process is designed to be simple and not overwhelming, while also verifying that the API Key entered is valid. This is not a regular on-boarding session, so it took a while to figure out after multiple tests.
The first screen of the onboarding session explains what Textcraft does, followed by steps on how to obtain your own API Key from OpenAI.
Clicking "Save API Key" automatically verifies the API Key's validity during the onboarding process, ensuring a seamless user experience.
This preemptive check during the on-boarding session prevents disruptions and frustration that might occur if the user discovers an invalid key while actively using the app's AI features.
If the API Key is invalid, a pop-up labeled "API Key Error" will appear, offering a link to detailed instructions on how to obtain the correct API Key.
The API Key provided by OpenAI is 55 characters. If a user enters an API key shorter than 55 characters, the system will immediately display an error message stating "Invalid API Key" instead of performing a background check.
After immense usability testing with 150+ beta testers, Textcraft was launched on PlayStore.
